View portfolioMaison Thoumieu was built in 1798. Why Thoumieu? In the villages of Bigorre, it was customary to call houses by the name of their owner. Thus, it is assumed that a certain Mr. Thoumieu was the builder. The history of the house in the 19th century is still poorly known; we are starting the research. We know that in 1936 a violent hailstorm devastated Azereix. The roof of the house, destroyed, was replaced by corrugated iron and the house gradually deteriorated until it was bought by the village doctor who undertook to renovate it in 1976. The project lasted 8 years with the precious help of many residents of Azereix.
The house was emptied and the roof remade with Argelès slate. Then the interior was fully restored while preserving the original wood panelling, double doors, and closet doors. The main feature is the staircase, also original, which features a curiosity on the turn of the landing between the ground floor and the first floor: the carpenter carved a dog and a donkey.
As for the floor, the tiles were locked by oak cabochons, as was practiced in the past.
